We got snow this morning!

the rustle of paper
of pages turning, turning
turns out to be
leaves on the street

and the smell of smoke
curling up into the air
is time rustling
in flames at our feet

their long metal tongues
speak liltingly
of the way the wind
winds through them

caressed, they
tinkle and chatter
clatter and shout
about the infatuation that moves them
to thrash wildly about

So the girl took the birds, the cold branches, and her memory of the angel home with her. And with them she wove a story in which white feathers fell from the sky , becoming snow. And the trees shivered at the thought of wings.
