Prohibition lasted from 1920 to 1933. During those 13 long dry years in American history, the sale, manufacture, and
transportation of alcohol for consumption were banned nationally. They
were also the years, according to ushistory.com, that saw the birth of organized crime to exploit the illicit business opportunities that arose with these new circumstances.
