The howlingest best full moon of the year

It's Friday and there's a full moon. The full moon will be the biggest one of the year as Earth's natural satellite reaches its closest point to our planet.

Details are here.

The Farmer's Almanac has a list of full moon names and their meanings. The Farmer's Almanac says that full moon names date back to Native Americans, of what is now the northern and eastern United States. December's full moon is called The Full Cold Moon; or the Full Long Nights Moon.

I didn't know this. All sorts of phenomena in the sky this month. Last week Venus and Mars clustered with a crescent moon to give an exciting view of the sky. My friend who came to visit from England (he stopped down for an afternoon) said that he and his wife had been watching it fascinated. The crescent moon in England always stand up end on end whereas ours looks like a cradle. He'd not seen that before. I didn't know that about the English view either.

I didn't know that about the view of the moon in England. Thanks for sharing that, Pris.

You can see that the moon looks like a smiley face from Australia, here.
