A poem for this winter weekend

winter things
By Annette Marie Hyder
Previously published in Empowerment4Women Magazine
you think of cold and ice
bare branches and black skies
tracks that get lost in the snow
i think of stars to find my way by
flames that lick the night away
the softness of your skin, of your fur,
of your sighs
i will help you dig
so that we can
burrow in together
for the winter season
you will bring me branches
of ice, as beautiful as diamonds
which will melt
but i will have had them
for a while
and when the snow has melted
all paths will lead to the river
but you wont see me there
look to the sky and the horizon
i will be wearing wings
the ones you gave me
and i will take you with me

"flames that lick the night away"....yum....I love it!
As always, it's a wonderful experience reading your work!
