Veterans Day

I wish there were something more meaningful
than free coffee and hometown parades
something as indelible as the green
of plastic toy soldiers (a green that never ends
even when the arms are chewed off
or the heads get twisted bent)
as recognizable as camouflage
as resilient as the soldier made of tin
something more lasting than a day
to show our veterans how much we value them.
