General Winter
Annette Marie Hyder

Blue the tincture of shade
that cups a man's face at five
blue the lake, blue the shadows
and cold clear blue the sky.

Silver branches and somber stone,
gray like a grim general's eyes.
Winter adjusts his uniform
and fastens his scabbard ties.
